Objectives:
Understand the networking complexities of large Fortune 100 company's IT
infrastructure to provide remote management services for monitoring and
troubleshooting network problems. The network will typically consist of multiple
customers each with multiple locations (approx. 100), interconnected over a
ATM/Frame-Relay based Wide Network. A typical network will consist of over 500
network devices consisting of Nortel Passport 6400, Nortel ARN, ASN, BCN routers
at the edges, Passport 8600,1200 at the core and Baystack 350/450 switches at
the access layer.
Responsibilities:
- Detect, isolate and diagnose network problems observed through network
management tools as well as reported by users
- Escalate and track problems internally and to external vendors wherever
required
- Thoroughly understand networking architecture to enable quick problem
isolation and diagnosis.
- Proactively identify customer issues by becoming familiar with customer's
technical and business environment
- Train team members in products and technologies and customer specific
challenges.
- Handle escalations from other team members
- Implement new management tools as well as fine tune existing management
tools to enable remote management services
- Proactively send helpful technical information to customer (upcoming
patches, technical news, etc.)
- Formulate daily activities and other periodic operational tasks.
- Manage network SLA's
Education / Experience:
- Graduate in Engineering
- Hands on experience in implementing networks and supporting the same
- 1 profile with 6 years of experience and another 3-4 years experience
providing maintenance, development and delivery of complex networking
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communications, and public
relations skills necessary along with customer handling experience
Skills:
- Thorough understanding of network protocols including TCP/IP, SNMP, RMON,
TFTP, IPX
- Network Hardware: Nortel networks Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches like
Baystack (310,T350T, 450T) and Accelar 1200, 8600 series, Passport 6400,
Network Management: Bay Networks Optivity, Site Manager, Device Manager,
Preside MDM.
- Configuration of switches using remote console like Telnet/RAS for
configuration management, troubleshooting and problem diagnosis
- Understanding and configuration of VLAN, 802.1Q and multi-link trunking.
- Knowledge and practical work experience on Network Management Platforms
like Optivity, and conceptual knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies/protocols
Desirable certifications:
Nortel NNCE or Cisco ACRC, CCNP, MCSE with TCP/IP.
